Matias Tellez interview part 2 –> Iceland… 12 Points!

Matias Tellez
Matias Tellez who comes from Norway and Chile (nice one!) played a great show at Organ during Iceland Airwaves, not only that but he's a really nice guy too. I interviewed him here before Airwaves and recently I interviewed him again to see how he enjoyed the Reykjavik experience as an overseas act at the festival, I'll be doing the same with Half Tiger very soon…

Matias, great to meet you in Reykjavik, what did you make of the place?

Hey man! Yeah, great to meet you to. It was cold.
Colder than Norway at this time of year. But still, Reykjavik was great,
amazing. Nice people, nice town, nice girls, nice architecture. Good
Indian food. I wanna go back. maybe on new year's eve!

How did you enjoy your show? You got a great reaction from the crowd!

The show was great! Lots of fun. The best gig I've ever had. And the
crowd was good although they probably never heard my music. Great.
12points!

I met a Norwegian radio dj over there – she told me you won a competition to
play at Iceland Airwaves, what's the story?

I'm not sure. I won a competition called urørt. It's a contest for the
best indie underground song. And I won. And they probably had a deal
with airwaves or something. So they paid the plane tickets and the
hotel. That was great. Urørt, good guys.

What are you influenced by? I think I can hear the Beatles in there – is
there a South American influence?

Beatles, yes. South America, yes. I grew up with bossa nova and the
tropicalia music such as Os Mutantes, Los Gatos, Caetano Veloso and
tango music. Also classical music like Rachmaninoff, Thcaikovsky and
Grieg, the romantic guys. I played the violin from when I was 6 to 12 years
old.

What are your plans now? Might we see you in London soon?

The plan is to finish my second album. I want to visit London! I hope
someday soon. I have to get some money to get over there first. No
money, no London, that's life, obviously.

What else did you see and enjoy at Airwaves? Have you got a top 5?

The only band I saw was actually Vampire Weekend, they were good. I
only was there from Friday till Sunday so I didn't get to see much.

Thanks so much for your time, good luck!

No problem man, have a great day!

See, nice guy! Check out his stuff on his myspace page. His album "Tamias Mellez" also available on UK itunes right now, so pay for it there and help him get to London. OK?
