And so to the last, shorter, evening of another splendid Iceland Airwaves. We headed to the only venue of the night, Nasa, dead on the start time of 9pm. For the first time this week we were buoyed by what my Mum would call a 'proper meal', 4 (four!) gorgeous big lamb chops, bbq sauce and a pile of chips. Thanks Prikid (seriously, go there and try them).

First up was a group called Fjallabraedur (pictured), a choir of farmers and fishermen from the small town of Flateyri in the westfjords, backed by a rock band. They provided one of those wonderful Airwaves surprises, 25 or so of them in suits crammed onto the stage singing their hearts out – all beards and puffed out chests, joking (or not) about Flateyri being an all female town that night. They were great, made an amazing noise and deservedly got a huge reaction.

Dr Spock appeared next which pleased me, they were definitely one of those bands on the wish list that I hadn't managed to see during the first 4 nights. Adorned as ever in a healthy mix of lycra (or is that spandex?), rubber gloves and just one balaclava, they sped through a fast and often furious set of hard rock n roll, great entertainment from start to finish, I'm glad I got the chance.

Finally came two bands who seem to have made the most of the Airwaves opportunity. Faroese rockers Boys In A Band (pictured) ran through yet another Airwaves set (is that 7 or 8?) – a similarly strong and committed set to the Saturday show at the Art Museum, minus the flag waving. They've been among the stars of the festival and there's a fair chance of more international success to come, I only wished I'd heard them play 'Before The Flood' live, a standout track from the album. Then came band of the festival(?) Retro Stefson who squeezed in one more show having been as busy as the band they followed onto the Nasa stage. Another set of intelligent, crafted, diverse and plain old fun pop, rock, disco and more. Once again their audience lapped it up and these youngsters (and they really are young) could be going places – as evidenced by my recent arrival home in London where I flicked on Xfm to hear their 'Salvadore' being played by Iceland supporting dj John Kennedy (and more of that soon). DJ Margeir was to follow them onto stage at soon after midnight but with thoughts turning to packing to travel home (and to hot dogs obviously, them lamb chops were hours ago now!) We decided that Retro Stefson was a fine and fitting end to the music for another year…

So thanks Airwaves and so long, thanks Reykjavik (and Reykjavik!) and loads of other people like Anna Hildur, Paul, Haukur and Bjorg from IMX, John Kennedy, Sy from Half Tiger, Matias Tellez, Birkir and Haukur (again) from grapevine, Hugleikur Dagsson,  Atli, Georg and all of Sprengjuhollin, beer (pictured), pylsur (pictured), Hildur and her coffee, and last but not least iceicebaby for keeping me warm, icemate and his icesculpture all of whom made it another week to remember. Next year then, yes?
