It's the youngsters this time, firstly the excitable, exciting and downright unmissable Ultra Mega Technobandið Stefán and then the energetic newcomers Naflakusk.

Hello Ultra Mega Technobandið Stefán, where are you and what are you doing?
We do all live in a small fishing town called Seltjarnarnes, but that is a small town in the suburbs of Reykjavík. We are making us ready for a huge marketing campaign followed by the release of our debut album ''Circus” and we have spent lot of time recently rehearsing and we have developed in the past months. But at this exact moment, we are all waiting for the local ice cream truck to take another round in our neighbourhood.

Arnþór Jóhann Jónsson : Keyboards
Guðni Dagur Guðnason : Drums
Sigurður Á.Árnason Olsen : Vocals and Keyboards
We also have another member who plays the keyboards and is our technician. His name is Vignir but we don’t know his last name.

Fun to watch

Probably, 5 other bands will play Airwaves at the same time as you, so why should people come and see your show?
In 2006, nobody expected us to do well so we were put in a tiny tourist pub were we made We are scientists (who were playing at the club at the other side of the street) look like vacuum cleaner salesmen. The next year we did the same to them (even though they didn’t perform that year, which makes this sweeter). We do also offer free hats to all that will attend at our concert.

What other bands will you try to see at the festival?
We are used to drift in and out concerts and try to discover acts rather than pick out few artists out of the group. Still we are very excited to see Familjen, Final Fantasy, Reykjavík!, Yelle and Crystal Castles. We do not expect to see any other acts.

Everyone has an opinion, but how and why does the Icelandic music scene that seems to produce such a large number of good bands?
Iceland has the cleanest water in the world. We do also like to tear down all cultural activities of the youth by supporting only dinosaurs and build castles for the upper class so they can watch Garðar Cortes in their expensive seats.

Ultra Mega Technobandið Stefán play on friday night/Saturday morning at 1:45am at NASA and on Saturday at 22:15 in Hresso. Their debut album 'Circus' is out now.

Hello Naflakusk, where are you and what are you doing?
Hello! At the moment we are sailing in a rowing boat, there is such a good internet connection in the Hafnarfjörður harbour. We are writing some new music and the sea is our inspiration. The Russian sailors with the moustaches are staring at us with a weird look though.

Who’s in the band?
A bunch of kids and one redhead.

We can make the hardest metal heads cry tears of joy whilst raving their chains off. Also we have extremely cool mini disco lights on the stage! They only cost 200ISK in the Rúmfatalagerinn but now the króna is so low that everything is going to hell and everyone is going to die! So you will have to see us NOW, before it’s too late!

What other bands will you try to see at the festival?
CSS, Vampire Weekend, Soundspell, Yelle, Familjen, PNAU, Benni Hemm Hemm, FM Belfast, <3 Svanhvít, and We Made God because we also have some emo friends!

There is nothing else to do in Iceland but write music and drive around in circles, we chose music.
