More Airwaves bands confirmed, one unconfirmed…

Just under a month to go now and another batch
of additions to the line-up are confirmed, and another potential one uncovered.

Confirmations first, according to the official site, which should know! There's
always a great night every year sponsored by Kerrang and it seems that the 2008
version will be headlined by Biffy Clyro. Not a band I know much about but they
certainly have a growing reputation since their last album, "Puzzle"
and especially the brilliant single "Living Is A Problem Because
Everything Dies". Also added to the bill are a pair of American bands that
I've heard good things about, White Denim and Boy Crisis. I don't own music by
either (yet) but on a very quick scouting mission thanks to myspace and itunes
both sound interesting, especially Boy Crisis (check out especially the free
download
"Dressed To Digress").

Back to Iceland, and the wonderful Lay Low is confirmed as performing. She first
really came to be known in Frk-spegilmynd
2006 via word of mouth after
posting some songs on myspace
(I guess that should be word of click or word of finger). She made a lovely
album, "Please Don't Hate Me" and staged a wonderful performance at the festival that year and has since made a theatre
soundtrack called "Ökutímar" (including several Dolly Parton covers!). Her show is sure to be special. In fact her 2nd solo
record (not including the soundtrack) will be out in Iceland on October 16th,
that's during Airwaves, and on myspace it says there will be a release concert
"the following day" at Frikirkjan, the church down by the lake in Reykjavik. However, this show is not part of the festival and will cost extra to go to, tickets are on sale now. Lay Low's airwaves show will be later the same night, at NASA.  Oh, and her artist profile says
that she will be touring in the UK before the end of the year. Nice.

And finally the interesting detective work. Atlantica, the Icelandair in-flight
magazine, always previews the festival and suggests a selection of artists
especially worth checking out. And I've seen this list and it includes the
lovely Swedish singer Lykke Li. I haven't seen her name linked with an appearance
anywhere else so either Icelandair have made an embarrassing mistake or Lykke
Li will be added to the official version of the line-up shortly. I'd prefer the
second option! The album "Youth Novels" provides fun and good
tunes and I dare say her live shows do much the same. You can see the article, including the rest of the suggested bands here
.
