The Pink Street Boys are READY

Advertisements

The Pink Street Boys just might be THE new band of Iceland Airwaves this year. Seemingly they have arrived from nowhere over the last six months and are getting rave reviews and praise all over the place. Over the summer they released a debut album, led by the thrilling single, Sleazus, on limited edition cassette (I love cassettes!) which made me super happy – it is also on bandcamp if you prefer. The ever-reliable Grapevine newspaper has shown them a lot of love; culminating in the free download of the whole album they offered a month or so ago.

So yes, shows by the Pink Street Boys are going to be one of the places to be this year. There will be rock, distortion, volume, tunes, tattoos and attitude.

Hello Pink Street Boys! Where are you right now? And what are you doing?

We're at Pink Street, Kóp doing our thing.

Who is in the band?

Axel – Guitar and vocals, Einar – drums, Jómbi– guitar/bass/vocals, Alli – slide-guitar/tambourine/vocals and Viðar guitar/bass/vocals

Where does the name come from? You sound nothing like Pink, or the Pet Shop Boys!

It's the name of the street we live in.

You seem to have appeared from nowhere in the last year, and now there's a lot of buzz, what is the history of the band?

We are all good friends from youth. We have been in bunch of bands together. This is by far the wildest band we have all been in. We started to jam with this line-up in January/February 2013 and had our first show in May that year. Then we have been playing a lot at least 1 or 2 shows each month since. So people should have noticed. And we rock.

I think a lot of people are going to be very keen to see you play at Airwaves. Just in case not everyone is decided, why should we choose your show above other things happening at the same time?

If you‘re in mood for rough wild rock n roll from the heart you came to the right place.

What made you decide to give your record away free with The Grapevine?

They wanted us to pick one of the songs to be the track of the issue, we couldn't pick so we just gave it all.

Have you had a good look at the Airwaves schedule? What else are you really excited to see?

King Wizard Lizard sounds like nice psych/garage madness, been fan of Caribou for a long time, but we have to check more of the schedule.

Finally, can you give some advice for people attending Iceland Airwaves and visiting Iceland for the first time?

Buy alcohol in the liqueur store it is cheaper.
