Welcome to the (not very) grand announcement of the second
annual poll for the best Icelandic album of the year!
Last year, I couldn’t
believe how many votes there were and Sóley was surely thrilled when her superb album "We Sink" pipped FM Belfast and Björk
to the big prize (hmmm, there should be a prize).
Meanwhile, amazon have just this week named My Head Is An Animal by those nice Of Monsters & Men people as their best album of 2011. Not a bad achievement! That very fine album came fourth equal in this survey last year.
I think we should do it all again
this year.
The rules (rules! ha!) are as before, each person can vote for up to 5 Icelandic
albums and each will receive one point. I will do some sums and announce a
winner just before Christmas.
Votes are very welcome from anybody and from everywhere, all of you can have five votes. Hey, if you are Icelandic and you released a record in 2012, why not vote for it!
So, please get thinking, spread the word and send your votes
in to me at markollard at googlemail dot com.
You may find inspiration in the recently announced nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards here. Or, off the top of my head right now I can think of 2012 releases from Ásgeir Trausti, Asonat, Björk, Borko, Dream Central Station, Epic Rain, Ghostigital, Hjaltalín, Human Woman, Kiriyama Family, Legend, Moses Hightower, Nora, Pétur Ben, Retro Stefson, Sigur Rós, Snorri Helgason, Sudden Weather Change, Svavar Knutur, Þórir Georg, Tilbury and Valdimar plus EPs from Samaris, Sin Fang & Sign.
Already regretting that I'm sure to have missed some great stuff of that list. Get voting for your favourites…
