GO Eyjafjallajökull !

I was planning to write this weekend about music that has got my enthusiasm going so far in 2010. Events have overtaken me somewhat, and I've been having enormous fun with everyone's new best smoky friend Eyjafjallajokull (hilarious guide to pronunciation, and some truly woeful attempts here).

I've enjoyed the coverage so much – seeing so much of Iceland on TV, in the papers, and hearing that familiar accent! I'm not inconvenienced (although you have to feel sorry for people who have been), in fact I live on the flight path into Heathrow so it's pretty good news and noticeably peaceful round here at the moment.

And the photos. Wow! The two here are taken from big picture and the always wonderful Reykjavik Grapevine. There are so many incredible photos of explosions, floods, glaciers, broken roads, ash clouds and brave people (and horses) on those two links, and also on flickr here and here.

The whole thing has been utterly awe-inspiring. The sights we've seen, the unquestionable dominance of nature over anything else and the humour. Looking at the power, It's great that more people and animals aren't harmed, let's hope it stays that way.

Finally, we all know how inspired by landscape and nature these Icelandic musicians are 😉 … this should keep them going for a while!
