Some things are too exciting and so beautifully relevant and a holiday has to be interrupted. I’ve long dreamed of such an event, and the excitement mounted as the rumours grew stronger, but goodness me when it was confirmed by a text I very nearly spat my ice cold beer all over this sun-drenched golden beach.
Yes, my beloved Queens Park Rangers now have an Icelandic player – a big welcome to Heidar Helguson. He’s joined on an ’emergency’ loan, but such things have a habit of becoming more permanent. I don’t know what the emergency is, other than a streak of disappointing form and low goal count, but I’m very glad to see the Icelandic reinforcement arrive. Will it make me support them more? No. Will it make me smile more? God yes! Will I feel an unreasonable sense of ownership and responsibility when (not if) he scores? Erm, yep. So good luck Heidar, no pressure…
Erm, an update… he didn’t play in the 3-0 defeat to Watford on Saturday (now, that’s an emergency). Nasty rumours that he is either injured (already) or never actually agreed terms and joined at all and is back with Bolton. Who knows…….
