iceblah interviews #6 – Esja & Lights On The Highway

Two more interviews already, I'm really trying hard to get all these posted up before the festival starts… this time it's the turn of the awesome Lights On A Highway and the very intriguing Esja. I'm really keen to see Esja and what happens when you take Krummi out of Minus and add the vocals of Daniel Agust – it's one of those fascinating collisions of style and background that the Icelandic scene seems to come up with so often.

Hello Esja, where are you and what are you doing?

I’m at a friends house who is the drummer for ESJA. He lets me use his internet and computer. I’m gonna get some pizza with extra pineapple after this interview.

Who’s in the band?
Well it’s me KRUMMI who plays guitar, DANIEL ÁGÚST the singer, DÓRI who plays the piano and BJARNI plays slide guitar and last but not least FROSTI the drummer.

Blog readers have a short attention span, can you describe your music in 3 words?
Foot stomping music

Probably, 5 other bands will play Airwaves at the same time as you, so why should people come and see your show?
Because we believe in our music and we look dandy.

What other bands will you try to see at the festival?
LIGHTS ON THE HIGHWAY, STEED LORD, MEGAS

Everyone has an opinion, but how and why does the Icelandic music scene that seems to produce such a large number of good bands?
Isolation from the shit they play on MTV and college radio. And the endless search for real ART.

Esja's debut album is available now and they will be playing at 21:30 on Thursday at Organ and on Friday at 8pm in the art museum.
